Appendix 10 - Adverse Weather Policy

Tracklements recognises that there are occasions when you may have difficulty in travelling to work when severe weather conditions are forecast and we want you to be safe, therefore, please observe the following policy.

Whilst we expect everyone to make every effort to come to work, you should not under any circumstances travel if it is dangerous to do so and should have due regard for your health and safety.

Procedure

Please use your common sense and where possible, arrange car-shares with your co-workers in advance of any disruptions.  If you are really worried, you should speak with your Manager who will advise you if there is someone available in a suitable vehicle to bring you to work/alternative arrangements can be made.

Severe weather may make travelling to work slower or more difficult. Where you find that your journey to work is delayed you should, where possible, contact your manager at the earliest opportunity.

You are expected to make every effort to arrive to work on time.

On occasions, for example in the event of road closures due to severe weather, we understand that it may be impossible for you to get to work. On such occasions you will normally be required to take the time away from work as unpaid unless you wish to take it as holiday in which case you must agree this with your Manager.

If unexpected weather conditions occur during the working day which will make travel difficult, you will, at management’s discretion, be allowed to leave work early in order to travel home safely – this will be classed as unpaid leave.  If the business decides to close as a result of bad weather, you will be paid your normal pay for the hours when the business is closed.  If you suspect that adverse weather may prevent Tracklements from opening, it is your responsibility to contact the office to find out.

Employees who abuse the above procedure may be subject to action under the Disciplinary Procedure.

This policy will be applied in a spirit of common sense and reasonableness, balancing the needs of the business, our customers, and the safety of employees.  This is a non-contractual policy and Tracklements reserves the right to amend or withdraw it at any time.

Unauthorised absence

The Company will not pay salary or any other benefits to you if you do not attend work and the absence is unauthorised.  This includes absence which is not covered by an authorised holiday request form, or absence due to sickness that is not covered by a doctor’s certificate, self-certification form and/or which has not been properly notified to [Job title/your Manager]. The Company reserves the right to deduct payment for the period of absence directly from your salary.
